SAVANNAH,GA ( May 22, 2012) Savannah-Chahtham Metropolitan Police arrested a suspect in a violent home invasion and sexual assault in East Wareham, MA, Tuesday morning when they searched a bus with two suspects wanted by Massachusettes police.
Brian A. Santiago, 20, of Wareham, MA, and his 22-year-old brother Bruce A. Santiago were arrested without incident at the Greyhound bus station on West Oglethorpe Avenue just after midnight Tuesday.
Brian Santiago is being held in the Chatham County Detention Center for extradiction back to Massachusettes where he is accused of being one of five men who last Thursday invaded a house a gunpoint, assaulted two men and a woman, raped the women and stole items from the house.
Police in Savannah were asked to search the bus which had a planned stop in Savannah by Massachusettes authorities.
Downtown Precinct officers placed the bus station under survelliance and used photographs provided by Massachusettes police to identify the suspects.
The younger brother, when questioned by SCMPD violent crimes detectives, admitted his part in the home invasion. The elder brother was wanted on misdemeanor charges that were not extraditable. He was interviewed and released.
Three other men have been arrested in the assault last Thursday and a fifth man is being sought by Massachusettes police.
