SAVANNAH, GA (May 3, 2019) – A badge pinning ceremony celebrating the graduation of 20 officers and the appointment of one officer to major brought out dozens of family and friends this afternoon.
Chief of Police Roy Minter recognized the appointment of Lenny Gunther to the rank of Major, after serving 18 years with the department thus far. Major Gunther holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s in Business Organizational Security Management. He is a graduate of Leadership Savannah, the IACP Leadership in Police Organizations Course and the 269th session of the FBI National Academy. He now oversees the Criminal Investigations Division.
Two women and 18 men made up today’s graduating class after they successfully completed training at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Garden City and Savannah Police’s Patrol School. Their family and friends joined them on stage, where they were ceremoniously inducted into the department by the pinning on of their official badges.
“As someone pins that badge on for you this afternoon, keep in mind the acronym that I told you, P.R.I.D.E, professionalism, respect, integrity, dedication and excellence,” said Chief Minter to the graduates.
