SAVANNAH, GA (November 24, 2010):Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are searching for a 21-year-old Savannah man who slipped a hand out of restraints, scaled a fence and rolled over razor wire to escape custody Wednesday night.
Gary Michael Johnson of the 1200 Block of Stiles Avenue was being escorted out of a SCMPD police wagon inside a fenced-in area at the Chatham County Jail about 6 p.m. when he ran, scaled the fence and escaped. Johnson is Black, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes.
He had been arrested earlier in the day on Charges of Theft by Receiving (Firearm), Carrying a Concealed Weapon and False Information. Additional charges are pending.
Police saturated the area near the jail off Chatham Parkway in search of Johnson, using a police dog and a helicopter but were unable to find him.
