SAVANNAH, GA (February 28, 2011): A 55-year-old Savannah man died Monday, apparently after a car he was working on fell and crushed him.
Noble Vernon Gwyn of the 800 block of Maupus Avenue was found under a car in the 1100 block of West 51st Street just after 3 p.m.
One witness reported seeing him working under the car in a side yard of the house about 10 a.m. A second witness called police just after 3 p.m. when school children pointed out the body extending from under the fallen car.
Savannah firefighters used the Jaws of Life to lift the car and administered first aid but Emergency Medical Technicians could find no signs of life.
An autopsy is planned by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are continuing to investigate.
