SAVANNAH, GA (June 7, 2012) The homicide of Gregory Lamar Williams has reached its first anniversary and Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are seeking additional information to help solve the case.
Williams, 43, was shot while in his residence in the 300 block of West 32nd Street early June 7, 2011 in what appears to have been an attempted robbery.
Police responded to find him on the floor of house occupied by other family members. His mother and another woman were trying to administer first aid and he was able to tell officers only a first name of a man he thought had shot him while robbing him. It appears he had been asleep in his bed in the house where a number of residents and visitors were chatting when someone walked in on him.
Williams was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center moments later and witnesses in the area, including some of his family members, were unable or unwilling to provide information that could help SCMPD Violent Crimes detectives identify his killer.
Police canvassed the area and found three men standing on a porch several blocks away, including one man they discovered had the first name Williams had mentioned. The man originally had given them a fictitious name. But they were unable to tie him to the crime. They also served several search warrants in hopes of obtaining information but have not been able to identify the shooter.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
