SAVANNAH, GA (December 14, 2010) The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police have made an arrest in the fatal hit and run.
Just after midnight Tuesday, 18 year-old Craig Loxton was killed in a hit and run accident on the Islands Expressway. He died instantly when his scooter was hit from behind. The driver of the second vehicle left the scene. A passing motorist discovered wreckage of the scooter and then the body of its rider just after midnight on the eastbound lanes of the overpass. SCMPD Major Accident’s Investigations Team determined the vehicle was a gold, 2007-2009 Toyota Camry or Camry Hybrid with damage to the right, front headlight assembly and bumper area.
Yesterday, just before 7:00 p.m., the attorney representing Jonathan Bret McKie, 38, called police and told them where to locate the vehicle in question. It was located in the suspects driveway as promised and towed by police to be processed. This morning, 11:00 a.m., MCKIE came to the traffic investigations office and turned himself in. He was charged with hit and run (40-6-270 (b)), vehicular homicide 1st degree (40-6-393 (b)) and DUI (40-6-391 (A)(1-4). MCKIE was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center .
