SAVANNAH, GA (September 14, 2011): A Downtown Precinct police officer rushing to back up another officer escaped serious injury when his patrol car was struck by another car Wednesday night.
The officer crawled out of the police car at East Henry and Live Oak Streets about 9:30 p.m. He was being treated at Candler Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
He was driving south on Live Oak to back up an officer on a traffic stop a block away when his car was struck by a Mercury Marquis travelling west on Henry Street. The man driving the Mercury was checked out by emergency medical technicians but not treated. Both cars were heavily damaged.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are continuing to investigate the accident to determine if any charges will be filed.
