SAVANNAH, GA (February 8, 2011): The man reported missing this afternoon has been located safe and returned to his family thanks to an alert Chatham Area Transit ( CAT) bus driver. Police had set up a perimeter, and started their search and CEMA search and rescue were responding but it was a CAT bus driver that spotted the missing man. Richard Hopkins was reported missing after he walked out of a dentist office this afternoon. Hopkins suffers from Alzheimer’s and walked away while his wife was being treated.
Just after 3:00 p.m., an alert CAT bus driver spotted Hopkins at 52nd Street and Skidaway Road and alerted police. Marcai Champen has been driving for CAT since December of 2009 and was on the Skidaway/Sandfly run this afternoon, when she located the missing man. “Her alert eye and quick actions helped us achieve the happy ending we were hoping for.” Chief Willie Lovett.
