SAVANNAH, GA (June 2, 2016): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department made a prompt arrest after an early morning sexual assault on ACL Boulevard, June 2.
The victim, a female in her 30s, reportedly encountered the unknown suspect near 35th and Jefferson Streets. Reportedly, the suspect spoke briefly to the victim before forcing her into a vehicle and traveling to a cemetery on ACL Boulevard, where the assault occurred.
The victim was able to escape and flee to a residence on Liberty Heights Drive where she sought aid. A homeowner called 911.
At approximately 5 a.m., Metro spotted a vehicle near the intersection of 34th and Whitaker Streets, matching the vehicle description of the suspect. A suspect was apprehended and taken into custody without incident before being transported to SCMPD Headquarters for questioning. He is charged with one count of rape. Additional charges may be pending.
This case remains under investigation.
