SAVANNAH, GA (August 25, 2017) – The registration process is underway for Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy is a fourteen-week program designed to allow community members to informally interact with the members of the police department and gain a greater understanding of the criminal justice system. Participants will meet officers from each unit of Savannah-Chatham Metro Police, who will explain the how and why of what they do.
Highlights of past programs include firearms/tactical training, traffic stop role playing and an opportunity to do a ride-along with a patrol officer.
The next class starts Thursday, September 14, 2017 and will meet each Thursday night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Savannah-Chatham Police Department Professional Development Center, 3401 Edwin Street. Applications are available at all precincts, Police Headquarters, and www.scmpd.org/citizenpoliceacademy. Each application must be signed and notarized prior to submission. Applicants can turn in their completed application at any precinct or Police Headquarters. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $10 for the 14-week course, which must be paid by cash or money order at the time of application.
Graduates will receive a certificate of completion from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and will be eligible to apply to the Volunteers in Policing Program if they want to support SCMPD through volunteering efforts.
All applications must be received by Friday, September 8, 2017.
