SAVANNAH, GA (October 30, 2015): Thursday, Violent Crimes detectives of Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department launched a suspicious death investigation after a four-year-old Savannah girl died on Tuesday.

Preliminary evidence showed the child died of natural causes. On Thursday, detectives initiated a suspicious death investigation when signs of unknown physical trauma were observed during an autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office.

Siblings of the deceased child, ages seven, five and three, were removed from their residence by the Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS). The three-year-old remains hospitalized with an unknown illness.

The GBI crime lab is performing an autopsy to determine the four-year-old’s actual cause of death. This investigation continues.
