SAVANNAH, GA ( September 22, 2012 ) One is dead and another charged with murder after a tussle between two homeless men sent both into the Savannah River Friday night.
The body of Willie Miller, 42, was located under a floating dock about 11:20 p.m. after a search by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and Savannah Fire Department divers.
SCMPD police later located Michael Myers, 34, a few blocks away and charged him with murder.
Witnesses said Miller had been drinking and following Myers and another homeless man in the boardwalk area off River Street. The two men became involved in a scuffle. Both fell over the railing at the edge of the river walk into the water beside a floating dock.
Myers was able to climb out of the water but police, firefighters, U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Natural Resources officers scoured the area for several hours before Miller’s body was found.
