SAVANNAH, GA ( April 21, 2011) The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Major Accident Investigations Team ( MAIT) was called out this morning to investigate a fatality involving a dump truck.
Just after 11:00 a.m., the driver of a 1995 dump truck Albert Frazier, 71, was traveling north bound on White Bluff Road when his vehicle struck a Seaport Landscaping truck and trailer driven by Deshun Boon, 32, as he attempted a left turn into Clover Village Apartment Complex.
The dump truck veered off the roadway, jumped the curb and struck the apartment building. Structural engineers determined the building would need to be supported before the truck could be removed. Savannah fire fighters helped shore up the building for support. Once the truck was pulled out. Savannah fire fighters used Sawzall’s and the Jaws of Life to extract the driver. Frazier was pounced dead at the scene. One person from the apartments was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Eight residents will have to be relocated. The building has been deemed unstable. White bluff Road was shutdown in both directions until 3:30 p.m., when one lane in both directions was opened back up for traffic. This is an ongoing investigation.
