UPDATE:  Aurelio Linares, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene Jan. 22, following a four-vehicle accident on I-516 near Montgomery Street. Dannette Pulley, 20, sustained serious injuries in the accident and was taken to Memorial University Medical Center. Also involved in the accident, but not injured, were Quentin Boswell, 23, and Tracy Green, 38.

SAVANNAH, GA (January 23, 2016): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Accident Investigations Team are investigating a fatal vehicle accident just before midnight, Jan. 22, on Interstate 516 near Dereene Avenue.

A Hispanic male was killed and another person was critically injured in the accident. The injured person was taken to Memorial University Medical Center.

The accident occurred when a westbound car on I-516 was hit in the right rear by a westbound pickup truck. The impact caused both vehicles to cross the median into the eastbound lane. As the pickup truck entered into eastbound traffic, it was hit broadside by a third vehicle and flipped over a guard rail into a concrete ravine. The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth vehicle was also damaged in the accident when it was struck by debris from the crash.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending next of kin notification. Traffic was closed while MAIT investigators documented the scene, but is now reopened. MAIT continues to investigate the accident.
