SAVANNAH, GA (August 4, 2013) – The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Islands Precinct have instituted a program aimed at boosting positive and productive communication between police and citizens.
As part of Operation Trust and Information, officers are visiting residents at randomly selected houses and businesses within in their assigned beat. Once contact is established, the officers provide residents with crime prevention and reporting tips, information about metro police services and upcoming events. This operation also is intended to give citizens an opportunity to provide officers with feedback on public safety within the area.
Islands Precinct Crime Prevention Officer APO Ryan Thomas initiated the operation. “I think this could be a good way to build up trust and to gain information from the community,” said Thomas.
