SAVANNAH, GA (July 26, 2015): Traffic investigators from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are trying to identify the driver of a pickup truck that struck a car and injured a Bluffton, SC, man this morning.
Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) officers recovered a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup that was abandoned by its driver after the 2:23 a.m. crash on Interstate 516 at the West Bay Street interchange.
Rufus Wiggins, 54, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center after the crash with serious injuries.
He was traveling east in a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass when the pickup approached from the rear and attempted to change lanes, striking the left fender of the car. The Oldsmobile then struck a concrete guardrail.
The collision knocked a wheel off of the pickup. Its driver ran from the scene.
