SAVANNAH, GA (November 22, 2010): A former “Worthy Secretary” of the Fraternal Order of Eagles has been charged with Felony Theft by Taking after writing approximately $216,000 in checks to himself from the organization’s bank account.
Star Cpl. Raymond Woodberry of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Financial Crimes Division said Gerald Griffin, 52, of the 106th block of Abercorn Street, wrote checks to “cash” or to himself from funds the club had from to sale of property several years ago. The funds were taken between January 2008 and November 2009.
As “Worthy Secretary”, Griffin had check writing authority and was responsible for the account.
