SAVANNAH, GA ( July 8, 2011) Two people are in custody after a woman bit an officer during a melee at the Piggly Wiggly.
Just after 4 p.m. Thursday, officers arrived at the Piggly Wiggly located at 7360 Skidaway Road after receiving a call of a fight in progress. Two people were actively fighting, throwing punches and kicks inside a Ford Escort in the parking lot of the business.
The officers broke up the fight and separated the occupants. Kayla Weaver, 20 and David Oliver, 24, were placed into the back of separate police cars.
WEAVER began complaining her handcuffs were too tight. When the officer tried to adjust them she attempted kick the door of the patrol car. She was removed and was in the process of waiting for a transport vehicle when she was able to remove one hand from cuffs and flee from officers.
She was quickly apprehended. However, when the officer attempted to take her back into custody WEAVER bit the officer. She had to be forcibly removed.
OLIVER was still secure in the back of the patrol vehicle and after witnessing the attempted escape, he started kicking the back windows. Both were shattered. He was removed from the vehicle. He continued to be disorderly and shouted obscenities and threatened the arresting officer.
WEAVER and OLIVER were transported to the Chatham County Detention Center once they were treated on scene for their minor injuries sustained during their fight and from shattered glass.
Oliver was charged with affray, obstruction, public intoxication, open container inside a vehicle, disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, and two counts of interference with government property. Weaver was charged with two counts of Obstruction, battery on a police officer and escape.
