SAVANNAH, GA (February 16, 2018) – The quick thinking of two convenience store clerks the evening of Feb. 14 led to the quick arrest of an armed robbery suspect.
Emmanuel Springsteen, 20, has been charged with robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and aggravated assault.
About 10:15 p.m. the suspect entered a store on Delesseps Ave., displayed a gun and demanded cash. The female clerk gave the suspect the cash, while a male clerk locked the front door with the suspect inside. The suspect confronted the clerk and a struggle ensued. The male clerk was able to gain control of the firearm and detain the suspect until police arrived.
“We recognize and commend the bravery of the staff in dealing with a dangerous armed robber,” Chief Mark Revenew said. “Because of the employees’ quick actions, we were able to arrest this suspect. However, given the dangerous nature of these crimes, we discourage anyone from ever physically confronting an armed suspect. We recommend that you always consider your own personal safety and the safety of others before acting.”
