SAVANNAH, GA (April 29, 2016): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Robbery Unit arrested and charged a 16-year-old as an adult after he allegedly robbed and critically injured a woman, April 28.
Metro responded to the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens for reports of a robbery of an employee just after 5 p.m. Prior to police arrival, the employee noticed a male subject enter the property. The subject reportedly entered the premises on prior occasions after damaging property. When the woman, who is in her 50s, attempted to take a picture of the suspect, he approached her, took her cell phone and fled. When the woman followed him, he pushed her and began striking her with an object. He then proceeded to vandalize her vehicle before fleeing toward Highway 17. The woman was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries.
Another employee, who reportedly observed the incident, followed the suspect to the Wal-Mart parking lot on Ogeechee Road. The suspect was seen entering a white Cadillac sedan. The employee called 911 as the vehicle traveled southbound on Highway 17 towards Bryan County. Once the vehicle crossed jurisdictions, Richmond Hill Police was able to stop the vehicle near the 2200 block of Highway 17.
The suspect, identified as Jason Tillman, is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, criminal attempt at murder, criminal damage to property in the second degree and aggravated battery. He was transported to the Savannah Regional Youth Detention Center without incident.
This case remains under investigation.
