SAVANNAH, GA (June 24 2011): Police are searching for a man who hijacked a Jeep, robbed and shot the driver, crashed into an SUV full of women and children, and then fled on foot Friday afternoon.
Just after 3:30 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were called to 43rd and Jefferson streets where they found Kenneth Hargrove, 29, with a non-life threatening wound to his shoulder. He reported he was in a rented 2011 gray Jeep Grand Cherokee when a young black male got in, pointed a gun at him and demanded his money and the keys.
Hargrove said he exited the vehicle and was shot before the gunman drove off in the Jeep.
Moments later the Jeep was speeding east on 38th Street when it ran a stop sign and crashed into a blue Ford Expedition traveling north on Lincoln Street containing two women and children. The two vehicles spun north on Lincoln and through a wooden fence before each crashed into trees in the yard of a house.
The driver of the Jeep ran west on 38th Street, carrying a bag, video tapes and a gun and was followed by a passerby to the area of 32nd and Le Grand streets some 12 blocks away.
Both Hargrove and the adult, female passenger in the Expedition were transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. One of the children in the car was taken to a hospital for examination by private automobile.
