SAVANNAH, GA (March 18, 2013): The Savannah Chapter of National Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Clubs will present a check to the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire March 23, as part of its seventh annual Charity Event.
The Buffalo Soldiers are a non-profit, family-oriented motorcycle club composed of active and retired individuals from military, law enforcement and other professional affiliations dedicated to motorcycling. Officers of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are among its members.
The club was founded to preserve the history of the Buffalo Soldiers army regiments from 1866 to 1944. The U.S. Army’s 9th and 10th Calvary units also were referred to as “Buffalo Soldiers.” The name was adopted by the members to express pride in accomplishments made during the decades following the Civil War.
The 200 Club is the beneficiary of the Buffalo Soldiers Charity Ride, in which members pay entry fees to participate. The ride starts at the Holiday Inn Express at Ga. 204 and Interstate 95 at 10 a.m. It ends at Johnson Square where there the presentation will be made to the 200 Club.
The 200 Club provides immediate financial assistance to the surviving spouse and children of area law enforcement officers and firefighters who lose their lives in the line-of-duty.
