SAVANNAH, GA (November 7, 2016): Today, with assistance from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Accident Investigations Team located the body of a missing teen involved in a submerged-vehicle accident on Nov. 6.
During a continued search by Chatham County Marine Patrol and GA DNR, Andrew Barnes, 17, was located in a body of water near the Skidaway Narrows Boat Ramp at about 8:15 a.m.
Metro initially responded to the scene at about 1:40 a.m. on Nov. 6, finding a submerged Chrysler 200. Reportedly, the driver of the vehicle, Delaion Woodbury, 20, was unfamiliar with the area. As a result, he drove down the boat ramp and into the water. The vehicle was also occupied by Matthew Barnes, 21 and Michael Barnes, 19. Woodbury, Matthew Barnes and Michael Barnes all swam to safety. Andrew did not return to shore.The SCMPD Aviation Unit, SCMPD Dive Team, Chatham County Marine Patrol, GA DNR and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted MAIT in the search.
This incident remains under investigation by MAIT.
