UPDATE: SCMPD investigators have identified the deceased as Jason Edwards, 34. Edwards is homeless, and was reported missing by relatives on Feb. 2. No obvious signs of foul play were observed. Edwards’ death remains under investigation as Metro awaits autopsy and toxicology results.
SAVANNAH, GA (February 8, 2016): Violent Crimes detectives of Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department have initiated an investigation into the death of an unidentified male whose body was found Sunday evening in a drainage ditch on 1900 block of East Montgomery Cross Road.
Sunday, at about 6:10 p.m., Metro officers responded to the scene after passersby reported seeing what appeared to be a body in the ditch. Preliminary investigation reveals no obvious signs of foul play. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab will conduct an autopsy on Monday, Feb. 8 to determine the cause of death.
Metro’s Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol and Forensics units responded to the scene. The Chatham County Coroner also responded.
The deceased is a white male in his late 20s to early 30s. He was wearing a camouflage jacket, blue shirt, shorts and boots.
