SAVANNAH, GA (November 4, 2015): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Animal Control Division placed 206 animals in October, setting a record for the shelter’s highest placement of animals in a one month period.
Among the 206 animals, one rabbit, one pig, 52 dogs and 15 cats were adopted. Forty-seven dogs and 10 cats were reunited with owners. Sixty-six dogs and 14 cats were transferred to rescues.
The shelter placed 141 pets in August and 171 in September. Animal Control credits this upward trend to cooperation between staff, community, rescues, and increased social media presence promoting awareness of the adoption program. During October, the shelter used the Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog and No Tricks Just Treats promotion to bolster social media presence.
“Once we receive animals, our first goal is to return them to their owners, said Jessica Armstrong of SCMPD’s Animal Control Division. “When this isn’t possible, we want to explore every mean of finding them forever homes.”
Animal Control’s adoptable pets can be viewed at adopt-a-pet.com or by visiting the shelter at 7211 Sallie Mood Drive from 1:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. daily.
