SAVANNAH, GA. (February 18, 2014): The second of two homeless men who died Friday night when their pickup truck flipped over into a water-filled canal has been identified as Arthur Ehardt, 64.
He and Joseph Benjaman Webb Jr., 46, died in the truck that had landed in several feet of water near a homeless camp beneath the Louisville Road entrance ramp to the US 17 highway overpass in west Savannah. Ehardt’s identity was withheld until his family could be notified.
The two men were in a Toyota pickup that Webb attempted to back down a rugged access path beside the canal as they left the homeless camp. The wheels on the driver’s side of the truck rolled over the side of the canal and the truck overturned. The two men were unable to exit the vehicle.
Officers of the Major Accident Investigation Team of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department continue to investigate.
