SAVANNAH, GA. (January 1, 2014): Two men received serious injuries in separate New Years Eve and New Year’s accidents being investigated by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.
Metro’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) officers reported Patrick Ford of Rincon and Spencer Tracy Mason of Brunswick were transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment after the accidents.
Ford, 39, was walking on the sidewalk in front of the Firestone store on MLK Jr. Boulevard at West Broughton Street about 11 p.m. Tuesday when he fell. He was run over by a minivan being backed into a parking space by a 56-year-old Savannah woman. Ford was being treated for broken ribs and a collapsed lung.
About 2:30 a.m. today, a red Lincoln Navigator being driven west on Montgomery Crossroads by Mason entered the median just east of Abercorn Street and struck a large oak tree. He was extricated from the wreckage by Savannah Fire and Rescue and is listed in critical condition.
MAIT continues to investigate both incidents.
