SAVANNAH, GA (October 1, 2014): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes Detectives made a second arrest Monday, for a shooting at a hotel on Savannah’s south side, leaving a final suspect at large.
Matthew Armstrong, 29, of Springfield, was arrested Monday by Statesboro Police. Torrence Veal, 25, of Milledgeville is sought by SCMPD. Investigators have linked both Armstrong and Veal to the Sept. 20 shooting of 29-year-old, Paul Andrew Grause in a hotel parking lot on Stephenson Avenue. The shooting left Grause in critical condition.
Armstrong and Veal are charged with aggravated assault. Veal also will be charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Veal is described as a black male with a low haircut. Veal stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs roughly 135 pounds. He is believed to have ties to both Pooler and Ellabell.
After the shooting, witnesses reported a blue Ford Expedition speeding from the scene, before being abandoned by three males at a restaurant at Hodgson Memorial and Eisenhower Drive. Metro quickly located the SUV, along with Austin Tyler Todd, 24, who fit one of the suspect’s descriptions.
Todd, who was found hiding behind a nearby building, received treatment for a bite from a police canine. A second SCMPD canine officer found items believed connected to the case nearby. Todd is charged with aggravated assault and obstruction.
