SAVANNAH, GA (February 7, 2017): An operation by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Strategic Investigations Unit resulted in two drug-related arrests on Monday, Feb. 6. The operation was initiated in response to several tips from concerned citizens regarding illegal drug activity in the Tatemville neighborhood.
During an SIU operation, detectives observed a vehicle committing several traffic violations. The vehicle fled when SCMPD officers in marked patrol vehicles attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of Boyd and West 59th streets. Investigators located the vehicle in a residential driveway in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, where Martino Buxton, 37, and Leonard Anthony, 26, exited the vehicle and fled from the scene.
Police located and arrested Buxton and Anthony nearby. A search of the vehicle revealed one handgun, 28 grams of cocaine in crack and powder form and 30 ecstasy pills.
Buxton and Anthony are convicted felons. Buxton is charged and with possession of firearm by convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, possessions of controlled substance with intent to distri
bute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute ecstasy and various traffic charges. Anthony is charged with possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute ecstasy.
