SAVANNAH, GA. (February 27, 2014): Two men were arrested and three hospitalized after an SUV fleeing a police car that wasn’t chasing it crashed into a second SUV, sending it into a third Thursday morning.
Two men in the first SUV, a black 2014 Chevrolet Captiva, were transported to Memorial University Medical Center after being apprehended in a foot chase by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team. They were treated for injuries and then arrested by CNT.
Three men in the second SUV, a black 2013 Toyota Rav 4, were transported to Candler Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries. The truck they were in overturned, taking out a utility pole and coming to rest against a third black SUV, an unoccupied Volvo XC90.
CNT agents had requested Metro Police perform a traffic stop on the first SUV with two males in it as part of an investigation about 11:30 a.m. A marked Patrol unit attempted a traffic stop on Abercorn near 37th Street on behalf of the CNT agents. The Captiva sped away and the marked unit disengaged.
A short time later, police were called to the crash at East 41st and Habersham streets. The original SUV had sped south on Abercorn and was headed east on 41st when it ran a stop sign and broadsided the Toyota.
