SAVANNAH, GA (March 15, 2011): Savannah Fire is working to extricate the driver of a tractor-trailer boom truck that overturned at the North end of the Back River Bridge and traffic has been halted across it and the Talmadge Bridge indefinitely.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are assisting South Carolina Authorities in blocking traffic from Savannah. Jasper County authorities have blocked traffic from the other side.
Rescue crews were still working to free the driver from the cab that is hanging over the West side of the bridge at 1 p.m.. 90 minutes after the wreck..
Police estimate the bridge will be closed at least until 3 p.m. suggest drivers use alternate routes until the bridge is cleared. Georgia and South Carolina Department of Transportation crews are on hand to determine if the bridge can be safely reopened once the truck has been removed. Sections of the concrete guards on the bridge were removed by the truck
