SAVANNAH – The Savannah Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit, with assistance from the Community Response Team, has arrested 29-year-old Mikeara Gibbons. She has been charged in connection with a September 8, 2024, fatal hit-and-run.
Officers responded to the 10 block of Derenne Ave. at around 3:20 a.m. on reports of a traffic accident. Once on the scene police located the adult male cyclist in critical condition. He was provided with initial medical assistance and transported to Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the car fled the scene before officers arrived.
Gibbons is charged with homicide by vehicle, serious injury by vehicle, hit-and-run, tampering with evidence, and speeding. She was taken into custody on Feb. 19.
