UPDATE (June 4, 2020): Samuel Blalock was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center on June 3 on charges of homicide by vehicle and reckless driving in connection to the Aug. 29, 2019 crash that resulted in the death of Syan Forde.
UPDATE (January 16, 2020): Ashley Shuman McPherson, 35, has been charged in connection to the collision that resulted in the death of Gayle Leary. She was booked into the Chatham County jail on Jan. 15 on charges of homicide by vehicle second degree, leaving the scene of an accident and no insurance.
TIU INVESTIGATES TWO FATAL AUGUST 29 CRASHES
SAVANNAH, GA (August 30, 2019) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating two unrelated, fatal crashes in Savannah on Thursday, August 29.
At around 10:45 a.m. yesterday, Gayle Leary, 61, driving a Saturn Vue, was traveling east on 72nd Street approaching Sanders Street. At the same time, an unknown driver of a dark blue Honda Accord failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling south on Sanders Street. The Honda Accord struck Leary’s vehicle, causing her vehicle to hit a parked car in the area. The unknown driver fled the scene and was last seen traveling west on Derenne Avenue near White Bluff Road.
Leary was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Later that evening, around 8 p.m., Samuel Blalock, 45, of Bloomingdale was driving his Mazda RX8 east on Airways Avenue approaching Ida J. Gadsen Drive. At the same time, Syan Forde, 20, of Richmond Hill was driving a Chrysler Sebring north across Airways Avenue on Ida J. Gadsen Drive when the two vehicles collided.
Forde sustained fatal injuries as a result of this crash.
