SAVANNAH, GA (February 16, 2018) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a vehicle crash into Outback Steakhouse that resulted in multiple injuries on Feb. 16.
About 7 p.m. Savannah Police and Fire departments responded to Outback, 11196 Abercorn St., after a Chevrolet Express Van crashed into the kitchen area at the rear of the restaurant. The crash resulted in a gas leak, and part of the ceiling collapsed. The building was evacuated.
An initial investigation by the Traffic Investigation Unit determined the driver, David Lanier, 42, of Rincon, lost consciousness prior to the crash.
Seven employees were treated for injuries that ranged from minor to life-threatening. Three of the seven were flown to the Joseph M. Still Burn Centers in Augusta for further treatment.
The crash remains under investigation.
