SAVANNAH, GA (December 24, 2020) – Savannah Police Department detectives quickly arrested a suspect who injured a young girl in a road rage-related shooting on Dec. 23.
Shyterria Shaquan Steward, 24, was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and two counts of cruelty to children 2nd degree.
Around 4:15 p.m. a 911 caller stated she was en route to the Candler Hospital with her 7-year-old daughter who had been shot while riding in her vehicle. The girl’s injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. She remains at the hospital in stable condition.
Officers learned that the child, who was a backseat passenger, was shot during a road rage related incident on White Bluff Road near Hampstead Avenue. The suspect had attempted to quickly move her vehicle from the turn lane into another lane, but the driver of the victim’s vehicle didn’t allow it. The suspect, angered by the incident, followed the other vehicle and then shot at the car, striking the child. In addition to the driver and the injured child, there was also a 6-year-old and another adult in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Officers quickly identified and located Steward. She was booked into the Chatham County jail the evening of Dec. 23.
