SAVANNAH, GA (July 24, 2022): Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit continues to investigate a July 23 crash at Ellis Square that resulted in injuries to several pedestrians.
According to the preliminary investigation, around 6 p.m. a 2019 Ford F-150 driven by John Stanley, 77, of Savannah, was leaving the Whitaker Parking Garage when the driver accelerated, crossing Barnard Street and entering the square. The vehicle struck several pedestrians before coming to a rest against a stone wall.
Several pedestrians were transported to a hospital by ambulance. Anthony Del-Porto, 38, of Charleston, and his 7-year-old daughter remain under treatment for serious injuries. A 7-year-old girl from Richmond Hill was treated and released. Ann Moxley, 67, of Pooler, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also treated for minor injuries and released The driver was not injured in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation. The initial indication is that the crash was accidental and not intentional. No charges have been filed at this time while the investigation is ongoing.
