SAVANNAH, GA (March 2, 2023): Savannah Police’s Community Response Team (CRT) has charged an individual with crimes involving possession of multiple firearms and narcotics following a traffic stop on March 1.
CRT was established in Fall 2022 by Chief Lenny Gunther to be a specialized unit focused on emerging crime issues and areas of concern within the community. The team augments patrol and focuses on crime issues, such as entering autos and auto thefts.
Around 2 p.m. CRT officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle while conducting preventive patrols on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near West 42nd Street. While speaking with the driver, officers detected the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a safe containing $7,400, two firearms, 129.5 grams of marijuana, 21 grams of methamphetamine, 5 Hydrocodone pills, and other drug paraphernalia.
Karlis Allen, 44, was booked into the Chatham County jail on charges of possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of drug-related items, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and other traffic-related charges.
