SAVANNAH, GA (October 13, 2021) – Savannah Police Department detectives continue to investigate a fatal shooting at the Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex the evening of Oct. 12 that has led to one arrest.
Officers were at the soccer complex, located at 7200 Sallie Mood Drive, around 8 p.m. when they heard gunshots and quickly discovered Rajah Young, 27, in the parking lot suffering from life threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Officers on the scene immediately identified and detained a suspect in the case. Mario Wallace, 26, was booked into the Chatham County jail on a charge of murder.
The initial investigation determined that the victim and suspect were known to one another, and the shooting was not a random act. No children or other attendees were injured during the incident.
Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses who came forward with assistance in the investigation.
Following the shooting, officers quickly worked to secure the scene and make sure all attendees were able to safely exit the park.
