SAVANNAH, GA (June 7, 2011): The Major Accident Investigation Team of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a traffic accident in which a young boy escaped with non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday night.
Kenneth Roberson, 11, of the 1200 block of East Bolton Street, was crossing the intersection of Live Oak and East Waldberg Street diagonally on a pink push scooter about 7:40 p.m. when he was struck by a black Honda travelling West on Waldberg.
The collision tossed the scooter west on Waldberg and the boy north on Live Oak. The driver of the Honda, Stephon Jamon Ferguson, 25, of the first block of Dutton Street, stopped, but drove away in fear of the rather vocal crowd that had gathered. He contacted a police officer at a minor collision a few blocks away to report the accident.
The child was transported to Memorial University Medical Center where he was treated and is being admitted overnight for observation. Ferguson was taken to SCMPD headquarters where he was charged with driving too fast for conditions
