Savannah Ga. (September 17, 2010) The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department has launched two new social networking sites in an effort to stay current and connected with the community.
Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, what do they all mean? Well they are all ways to communicate in today’s world. Gone are the days of sitting around and waiting for information, now it’s virtually everywhere.
Savannah-Chatham Metro’s website at www.scmpd.org has current content including: a citizen survey, department history, interactive crime mapping, comstat statistics, news releases and much more. Now with the addition of “wordpress” ( an online blog site) citizens will have the opportunity to not only read news releases, but comment on them. Opening up a dialogue and helping us gauge the climate of the community. By clicking on the wordpress link located on the front page of www.scmpd.org the reader will be able to view news releases and current events. they can also visit the site directly at. www.scmetropd.wordpress.com
Facebook is another “new” add on for Savannah-Chatham Metro Police, and one more way to disperse information. Facebook was the most commonly used channel for posting eyewitness information on a emergency or newsworthy events. Now Facebook users will be able to get news releases, traffic updates and emergency alerts from Facebook, just search Savannah Chatham Metro Police.
Twitter is last but certainly not least! SCMPD has had Twitter for a while but was not ready to open it up to the general public. Now Twitter subscribers will be able to get news releases, traffic updates and emergency alerts on the go at http://twitter.com/scmetropd
