SAVANNAH, GA (April 9, 2020) –The Savannah Police Department has identified one reserve officer who has tested positive for coronavirus.
The reserve officer is currently at home resting. In addition to this reserve officer, 13 officers are self-quarantining due to possible exposure to the coronavirus. Nine of these officers are currently awaiting test results. If the results are negative, they could return to work as early as next week.
SPD will continue to monitor the officers who are self-quarantining. Officers are constantly encouraged to follow good personal hygiene practices as outlined by the CDC such as washing their hands regularly, hand sanitizing, coughing into tissue and being mindful of their physical contact with individuals. SPD is also continuing to ensure the cleanliness of buildings by utilizing best practices in disinfecting work spaces.
This is a reminder of the vast impact this pandemic has had on the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the reserve officer and their family as they offer support in the recovery process.
