Savannah Police Investigate Gun Discharge, Crash on Paige Avenue
SAVANNAH, GA (January 16, 2019) – The Savannah Police Department Violent Crimes and Traffic Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a gun discharge, which resulted in a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist yesterday evening.
Shortly after 5 p.m., officers responded to Paige and 2nd avenues for a shots fired call and a vehicle versus motorcycle crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Hyundai Elantra, driven by an unknown person, was fleeing the scene of a gun discharge in the area. Jose Pacheco, 20, driving a Suzuki GSXR600 was traveling north on 2nd Avenue when he was struck by the Hyundai Elantra that failed to discontinue at a stop sign at the intersection.
The driver of the Hyundai fled the scene on foot. Pacheco sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Detectives have identified and interviewed a person of interest. There were no reported injuries stemming from the gun discharge. Both of these investigations are ongoing.
