09/15/20 UPDATE: Due to investigative efforts, Ashamir Johnson, 31, was identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting of Kareem Bennet, 31, on September 8. Today, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, Johnson was apprehended and charged with murder.


SAVANNAH, GA (September 8, 2020) – Savannah Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man this morning.

At around 8:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to a ShotSpotter call on the 600 block of Emerald Drive. Upon arrival, they located a shooting victim, later identified as Kareem Bennett, in critical condition. Emergency personnel transported Bennett to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
