SAVANNAH, GA (October 14, 2014): Sunday, Oct. 26, the Rape Crisis Center of Savannah’s (RCCSAV) Hair and Fashion Show in the Garden will mark the introduction of its national Bar Bystander campaign to Savannah.
The event will take place at the Savannah Botanical Garden, at 1388 Eisenhower Drive. It will feature a runway fashion show with designs by Lara Wolf and hair styling by Color Geek Salon. Models will display signs promoting Bar Bystander’s cause during the fashion show. Bar Bystander is a national RCC campaign run in partnership with area law enforcement agencies and bars to strategically reduce occurrences of sexual assault involving excessive alcohol consumption.
Through its Bar Outreach Program, Bar Bystander appeals to local alcohol-serving businesses to voluntarily become Safe Bars Against Sexual Violence. Participating Safe Bars Against Sexual Violence will be marked with an RCCSAV decal near entrances. Decals indicate that bar staff is trained to pinpoint and appropriately intervene when a customer’s excessive drinking puts them in danger.
“This event gives us a forum to educate our local bars and their potential customers on what Bar Bystander is and how participating and becoming familiar with this program benefits everyone involved,” said RCCSAV Director, Kesha Gibson-Carter.
At the event, guests representing local bars will be able to enroll in the RCCSAV’s November Safe Bar Against Sexual Violence employee training class. All guests interested in supporting Bar Bystander can RSVP for the Bar Outreach Program’s volunteer informational by calling (912) 233-3000.
The RCCSAV’s Hair and Fashion Show in the Garden is open to the public. Admission is $20 per person. Doors open at 4 p.m. for guests to enjoy light refreshments before the show.
Beginning at 3:30 p.m. RCCSAV invites members of the media to discuss Bar Bystander’s planned local impact. Also present will be two of RCCSAV’s Bar Bystander partners: Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and Wet Willies.
