SAVANNAH, GA (October 15, 2011): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a 40-year-old escapee from a transitional center who stole a woman’s car, robbed and beat her, and then fled after crashing the car Saturday.
Timothy Jerome Mack is a black male, about 6-foot-1, weighs 205 with brown eyes and short black hair and may or may not have a moustache. Warrants were filed against him Saturday for robbery by force after he ran from the crash at Heritage and Stuyvesant streets in the Liberty City area of Savannah about 4 p.m.
He was on a work-release program through the Coastal Transitional Center and did not return by noon as he was required. When he had not returned by 8 p.m., he was ruled an escapee.
Police responded to the crash and saw him run from the stolen BMW which had hit a mailbox and ditch. A 29-year-old woman in the car reported she was giving him a ride when he robbed her, beat her and took the car. They were fighting over control of the car when it crashed.
The woman was transported to Candler Hospital for treatment of injuries from the beating and wreck.
Mack was serving a 5-year sentence since October 2007 for theft by receiving stolen property, attempted theft by raking, possession of tools to commit a crime, entering vehicles, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He has an extensive arrest record in Savannah and Chatham County.
Anyone with information on the case or location of Mack is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include “CStop2020” plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
