SAVANNAH, GA (September 14, 2016): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Accident Investigations Team is investigating a three vehicle wreck that claimed the life of one person, Sep. 14.
At approximately 9:50 a.m., Leola Ellison,72, was traveling eastbound on Highway 80 near Macceo Drive in a 1998 Volvo S70. Reportedly, she made a sudden left hand turn traveling across the center turn lane and across the west bound lanes colliding with Walter Schaaf, 51, who was traveling west on Highway 80 in a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. Schaaf was unable to avoid colliding with Ellison’s vehicle. Schaaf’s vehicle spun around and was struck by a 2013 Toyota Tundra driven by Michael Deboe, 51, who was also traveling west bound.
Ellison was pronounced deceased at the scene. Schaaf was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other reported injuries.
This wreck remains under investigation by MAIT.
