SAVANNAH, GA (July 22, 2012) The motorcyclist killed in a high-speed crash into the side of a tractor-trailer Sunday morning has been identified as James W. Dorsey, 33, of Pooler, Ga.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police identified him and contacted family members Sunday afernoon after tracing ownership of the 2004 Yamaha motorcycle that collided with the tractor of the rig at US 80 and Dean Forest Road at 1:30 a.m.
Dorsey carried no identification and the motorcycle registration had not been completed. The temporary license plate on it was assigned to another motorcycle. Dorsey was declared dead at the scene, but investigators withheld that information as they released detailed descriptions in hopes someone could help identify him.
The black motorcycle was traveling west on US 80 when it failed to stop for a traffic light and crashed into the side of a 2006 Volvo tractor driven by
Aaron Alton Graham of Ellanwood, GA. Graham was not injured. no helmet was found in the wreckage.
Garden City Police had seen the accelerating motorcycle and had turned to initiate a traffic stop seconds before the crash.
The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of SCMPD is continuing to investigate.
