SAVANNAH, GA (October 14, 2014): The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is warning residents and businesses of a scam involving a police officer who does not exist.
A caller is telling potential victims that he is working a credit card fraud case and needs their credit card numbers for the investigation. Payne said if anyone receives such a phone call, they should not provide credit card information or any other personal information.
The caller sometimes uses the name Detective Bill Collins. No such detective exists.
Anyone that has any information regarding this case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
