SAVANNAH, GA (October 31, 2015): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the US Coast Guard aided the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in its search for a missing boater near Ft. Pulaski.
At about 9:10 a.m. on Saturday, Metro responded to scene where a small boat collided with the Fort Pulaski Bridge. The boat reappeared without its operator. The missing boater is described as a white male in his early 20s to late 30s. He is believed to have been the sole occupant of the vessel.
DNR located the boat. The boat’s operator remains at large.
DNR, SCMPD and Coast Guard vessels responded. The Coast Guard also provided aerial support. SCMPD’s Islands Precinct patrol officers, Marine Patrol Unit and Underwater Search and Recovery Team (USRT) joined the search.
Metro’s Marine Patrol and USRT ran side scan sonar throughout the area of the missing boater’s last known location. There, two points of interest were marked and searched by divers.
Metro cleared the scene upon completion of the dives, but will return at the request of DNR. DNR continues to search the area.
