SAVANNAH, GA (June 2, 2011): Police have confirmed the identity of a 36-year-old North Carolina man whose body was found floating in the river in front of the Savannah Riverwalk.
An autopsy is being performed by the State Crime Lab in Savannah to determine the cause of death of Lacy Jones Jr. of Wagram, NC. But Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police said there were no initial signs of foul play. He appears to have been in the water more than a day.
During the night police confirmed that the North Carolina drivers license found in his sock belonged to him.
Four men in a boat noticed the body floating in the middle of the river near the city docks just after 4 p.m. and pulled it to the docks by the shirt collar. Boots and other possessions believed to have belonged to the victim were found near the riverfront.
